How to measure

You may need a family member or friend to assist you with the measurements. Use a cloth tape measure. Make sure that the tape is level when you circle your chest, waist or hips. The tape should neither be too tight nor too loose.

Stand with your back against the wall and your feet together. Stand up as straight as possible with your heels, back, shoulders, and head all touching the wall. Put a book onto your head and press it against the wall at a right angle. Mark the position above the top of your head on the wall with a pencil. Measure from the floor to the pencil mark with a measuring tape.

Measure the circumference of your chest. Place one end of the tape measure at the fullest part of your bust, wrap it around (under your armpits, around your shoulder blades, and back to the front) to get the measurement.

Measure the circumference of your waist. Use the tape to circle your waist (sort of like a belt would) at your natural waistline, which is located above your belly button and below your rib cage. Don’t suck in your stomach, or you’ll get a false measurement.

Measure the circumference of your hips. Start at one hip and wrap the tape measure around your rear, around the other hip, and back to where you started. Make sure the tape is over the largest part of your buttocks.

Leg length

Measure the outside length of your leg from the waist to the hem.

This is the distance from the uppermost inner part of your thigh to the bottom of your ankle. Either have a friend stretch the tape from your crotch to the bottom of your ankle or, if you have pants that fit you perfectly well, measure the inseam of the pants from the crotch to the hem.

Head circumference

Measure the circumference of your head approx.1 cm above your ears. Make sure that the tape is level.

Foot length

Stand upright and have someone else measure the size of your foot from the point of your toe to the heel.

Wrap a measuring tape around the widest part of your palm, usually just below your knuckle and not including the thumb.
